Snow Moon Eclipse & The Green Comet
Experience a triad of celestial charm this evening as the Snow Moon culminates above like a brilliant aerial ornament. Not only will we marvel in it's magnitude but it's mysterious and unnaturally darker appearance. The moon will pass through the outer edge of Earth's shadow, called the penumbra, approaching it's peak and creating the Penumbral Lunar Eclipse. *The best viewing will take place at 7:45pm (ET).
Though it's display is less glorified than it's counterparts, the Full Lunar and the Partial Lunar Eclipse, in which the moon exhibits a shade of "blood red" or a "bite missing" appearance, this subtle looming Penumbral Lunar Eclipse won't disappoint, as it's met with a green-hued comet suited to propel past the Earth at approximately 3am.
The comet, 45P/Honda-Mrkos-Pajdusakova (45P/H-M-P), will mark the closest one has come to the Earth in over 30 years.
The central rituals include the lighting of fire to celebrate the increasing power of the Sun over the coming months.
